About

Photography is not accidental. It is built.

Harold Horsefall is the photographer behind Thunder Boy Studios, a Calgary-based studio focused on cinematic, editorial-driven visual storytelling. He is a commercial and fine-art photographer specializing in cinematic portraiture, editorial imagery, and limited-edition photographic works.

His work is defined by deliberate lighting, controlled colour, strong composition, and a deep attention to mood. Whether creating portraits for artists, professionals, performers, brands, or collectors, Harold approaches photography as something authored — not simply captured.

Every image begins before the shutter is pressed. Harold studies pattern, contrast, emotion, structure, and the way light shapes presence. His process is rooted in pre-visualization: seeing the photograph before taking the picture, then building the conditions for that image to emerge.

“Photography is more than exposure — it’s colour, emotion, pattern, leading lines, light, dark. It’s about pre-visualization and seeing the photo before taking the picture.”

This philosophy guides both sides of his practice. On the commercial side, Thunder Boy Studios creates polished, visually distinct images for people and brands who need photography with presence, clarity, and style. On the fine-art side, Harold develops conceptual bodies of work intended for print, exhibition, and limited-edition release.

Harold’s signature work lives at the intersection of cinematic portraiture, editorial image-making, and fine-art practice. His goal is to create images that feel. Images should evoke emotion and stay with you. If you’ve read this far, there is a good chance you are in the right place.

Thunder Boy Studios is built for people who want more than a snapshot. It is for clients, collaborators, and collectors who value craft, story, and photographs with emotional weight.
